I don't view being an artist as a profession...Making art is just what I do.

Robert Petrick: New York City's Vanguard of Authentic Artistry

Dive into the world of Robert Petrick's art. This isn't just any artist. This is New York City's heartbeat manifested through the brushes of a master painter, whose talents also dance in the realms of Digital Art, Photography, and the finesse of Letter Form Design.

In an era inundated with AI pseudo-art and the surge of NFTs, Robert stands firm in his essence. He’s not just a painter; he's a lifelong devotee to the canvas. Every stroke exudes passion and inspiration that only genuine hands and a fervent heart can produce.

Flashback to 1984: Avenue B bore witness to Robert's iconic stencils—EXIST/EXIT and NOWHERE/NOW HERE. Vogue Magazine caught onto the genius, championing graffiti as a sophisticated art form rather than mere vandalism. This shift in perception, mirrored in cinematic and musical realms, was profound. And Robert was right there, shaping its narrative.

From his East Village studio, where he’s lived for 68 years, Robert’s artistry bridges the vivacious street culture with the potency of the written word—a lifelong exploration.

His Word Paintings magnify the beauty of language in its rawest form. On the streets, they resonate as democratic symbols, but on canvas, they invite introspection on the very marks shaping our world's communication.

Graffiti Painting, another of his remarkable series, showcases Robert's prowess in deconstructing graffiti semiotics. The canvases are dense with symbols—a reflection of urban chaos and voices. Unlike the structured lines of Keith Haring/LA2, Robert's pieces present a vibrant mesh of raw written gestures, a symphony of jumbled eloquence.

But there's more beneath the layers. These artworks challenge order, defy conformity, and resist the dominance of urban planning and corporate intrusion. So, as you immerse yourself in Robert's world, ponder this: Are we witnessing mere art, or is this a subtle linguistic revolution?
